What is Anxiety, is it all in your Head?
Anxiety is a normal response to stressful situations, first date, public speaking, or first day on a new job. But if the anxiety seems to be with you all the time or prevents you from doing things you normally do you may be suffering from an anxiety disorder.
Have you ever been in a situation where someone just flips out or storms off for what seems no reason. It may because that person just found that straw that broke the camel’s back. It could because of the fight or flight mode anxiety brings on. Drugs may help soften this but every once and awhile, it becomes overwhelming, something must give.
4 types of anxiety disorders:
- Panic disorder-lots of stress all at once for a short amount of time. You may be panting, dizzy, heart pounding.
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) -many people claim to suffer this, I guess it is the “in” thing right now. This is really doing things over and over or thinking things over and over to try to overcome stress. Not fun at all.
- Phobias- you are scared of a something that isn’t always dangerous, for example heights, spiders or dogs.
- Social phobias-anxiety brought on by social situations. Could be crowds, conversations, public speaking.
What is Generalised Panic Disorder
This article I covers what is known as generalised panic disorder or GAD. But to be sure, please get checked by a doctor to make sure your symptoms are not part of a different medical condition. Some symptoms are similar to things caused by menopause, heart attack or even side effects of drugs you may be on.
