Plantar fasciitis is a stabbing pain in your heel or arch of the foot. The plantar fascia is a thick band of tissue that goes from the toes to the heel of the foot. You will notice it mainly when you are either walking or running.

What Causes Plantar Fasciitis Heel Pain?

As we age we are more susceptible to damage to this part of our body. Sometimes we are involved with activities that put strain on our feet, things like running, aerobic dance or standing. Even being obese can put extra weight in this area. When the plantar fascia is once inflamed, it will continue to hurt. When we sleep the little tears with begin to heal, when we get out of bed and stand up, the newly healed tears with rip again. That causes a stabbing pain in the feet.

What can be done about Plantar Fasciitis?

Check with your doctor to make sure the foot pain you have isn’t caused by another underlying problem. If it is plantar fasciitis, the doctor will probably prescribe a non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug such as an ibuprofen. The doctor may even want to inject a corticosteroid directly into the affected area. It is very important to heal this area because foot pain may affect your daily exercise routine and prevent you from getting out into the fresh air.
